Seven Deadly Sins・Review

oh gosh. It’s been so long since I’ve sat down to watch some anime. I just haven’t had any luck finding anime that I enjoy lately. My problem has been fixed though! A while back when I was getting anime crates from loot crate, I received a box that contained the first volume of The Seven Deadly Sins. The characters looked a bit old and I ended up giving the manga to my brother for him to read instead since it just didn’t seem like it would be something I liked. He ended up reading the first volume and then went ahead and watched the anime. He would talk about how good of an anime The Seven Deadly Sins was but I just ignored him. Until the day I finally got Netflix and saw that they had the anime. I decided to just go ahead and watch it so I ended up rounding my other two younger brothers and we watched it in the living room. At first, I didn’t pay much attention to it but as the episodes went on I ended up being completely intrigued by it!

Quick Summary:

Third Princess of the Kingdom of Liones, Elizabeth, goes on a search to find the seven deadly sins in hopes that they will be able to help her fight the holy knights who have taken over the kingdom and are wreaking havoc. The seven deadly sins were once great allies and helped the king and his kingdom but after his tragic death, they were the main suspects. The party disbanded and were now living in exile. Elizabeth hopes that with the seven deadly sins back together they will be able to uncover what really happen and bring peace to the kingdom once more.

My thoughts:

The seven deadly sins include: Melodias, leader and the sin of wrath; Diane, giant and sin of envy; Ban, immortal and sin of greed; King, fairy and sin of sloth; Gowther, the sin of lust; Merlin, the sin of gluttony; Escanor, the sin of pride.

Now it’s been like a month or two since I last saw the anime so my review will be really short and simple. I also have a very terrible memory so I apologize beforehand.

Like I mentioned earlier, I didn’t want to watch the anime because of the design of the characters. Okay, I’ll be honest, I am kinda picky when it comes to anime. I don’t like watching certain anime that have weird or outdated character designs. Yeah, I know…. WHAT!? 0.o I honestly don’t know how it happened. I guess I got used to watching certain anime that had similar character designs so when I go watch something different I tend to be a little hesitant and automatically think I won’t like it. That’s what happened in this case with the seven deadly sins. I ended up watching it and liking it so it’s all good!

I really did enjoy this anime after getting over my internal judgment of the characters. My favorite characters have to be Melodias and Gowther. I like Melodias because he is such a mysterious character. As the story progresses we come to see the dark and scary side of Melodias but never know what is actually going on with him. The first season ends in hopes of finding out the answer to who Melodias really is. Despite whatever inner darkness he has, he is a really kind leader to his parents. He’s like that happy go lucky kid who people want to bully just because and when they corner him they end up surprised when he fights back and wins. I also choose Gowther because I just find his character hilarious. He’s that clueless but the super genius guy that everyone needs. I don’t know, I just really liked him even though he was in the back of the pack most of the time.

I liked how evenly the story progressed in every episode. They did a really good job of introducing characters and more plot into the episodes without it feeling rushed. Although I got to admit that I did find myself confused at the end because I couldn’t come up with who the seventh sin was. I know they showed him in one of the episodes but it was never that obvious or at least I wasn’t really looking at the time they showed the character. Because I couldn’t figure out the seventh sin I ended up just concluding that Elizabeth was part of it haha. It’s silly I know. I ended up having to go to the wiki fandom to figure out that Escanor was the last remaining sin.

Speaking of Elizabeth… I had mixed feelings for her. I get that shes the one rounding up the seven sins but her character was a little lame. I mean she makes up for the lack of character at the end when her mysterious power is revealed. Now, the most important character who I think stole the whole show was definitely Hawk. That cute little pig was always making me laugh and would always jump into action to defend Elizabeth and the sins. He wasn’t just the sin’s mascot but their hero. Mama pig is one proud momma that’s for sure.

This anime was really enjoyable. I really do recommend it to everyone who hasn’t seen it yet.

From animenewsnetwork:

“The staff of The Seven Deadly Sins anime franchise revealed at the “Nanatsu no Taizai FES” event in Tokyo on Sunday that the anime’s new season is titled The Seven Deadly Sins: Revival of The Commandments (Nanatsu no Taizai: Imashime no Fukkatsu), and it will premiere in January 2018.”

Yay! I hope you’re excited as I am for the new season in 2018!
